		<description>The tools you talk about were not even around 5+ years ago and have now exploded.  There has got to be some underlying reason for the popularity of these tools.  

IMHO, it is because these tools facilitate human interaction between individuals all over the globe.  Geographic borders no longer apply.  They have also redefined human interaction in a positive way.  

We can connect with people from our past on Facebook that most of us would have never heard from again.  We never would have called these people on the telephone, but Facebook makes a &quot;quick hello, glad to see that you are doing well&quot; possible and gives most of us a warm feeling.

What we are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg, and we all can benefit from the social media phenomenon.</description>
